Patient of the Month: Megan

January 2026

After bloodwork taken during a routine "sick visit" to the local urgent care yielded alarming results, Megan was admitted to Nicklaus Children’s Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute, where she was diagnosed with a high-risk leukemia called Philadelphia Chromosome–like Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Ph-like ALL).

At only seven years old, Megan underwent aggressive cancer treatment, led by Pediatric Hematologist and Oncologist Dr. Guillermo De Angulo, that included infusions and chemotherapy and lasted about two years. Thanks to the expert cancer care Megan received at Nicklaus Children’s, she is now cancer free and recently started middle school. She hopes to one day be a nurse and care for others the way she was cared for.
